Suspect Confesses to Killing Mother After Drinking Sachet Alcohol

A 65-year-old man, Lukman Odejoju, has confessed to killing his mother after consuming sachet alcohol, locally known as ‘pelebe.’ The tragic incident took place in Kajola village, near Apomu, Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State.

During a police parade at the State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, Odejoju recounted how an argument with his mother over the ownership of a palm plantation led to a violent confrontation. He explained that he had consumed sachet alcohol before going to the farm, where he and his mother engaged in a heated discussion.

“We were arguing in the farm about her palm plantation and she refused to hand it over to me,” Odejoju said. “Amid the argument, I pushed and strangled her, but I didn’t know she would die. It was after the incident that I realized I had committed a grave mistake.”

Odejoju described his shock and regret following the incident. After realizing what he had done, he adjusted his mother’s body and went back to the village to bring others to the scene. Once they returned to the farm, he confessed to what had happened.

“I love my mother, I am her eldest surviving child out of five children, and I urge the government to forgive me because it was not intentional,” he pleaded.

The police are continuing their investigation, and Odejoju is expected to face charges for the crime. .
