Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria Decries Lack of Progress Under Muslim-Muslim Ticket, Expresses Regrets
In a recent interview during the National Conference in Abuja themed “Matters Arising From 2023 Election and Associated Socio-Economic Challenges,” the President of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN), Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyyatullah, expressed disappointment over the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government under the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Hadiyyatullah stated that despite widespread support for President Bola Tinubu during the election, Nigerians have not witnessed positive changes since the government took office. He specifically criticized the adoption of the same-faith ticket, emphasizing that it was expected to bring development and progress to the nation.
According to the cleric, “The Nigeria of today is too bad. We are buying items at significantly higher prices, facing Naira scarcity, and witnessing escalating unemployment. Nigerians are not enjoying the new government at all.” He also raised concerns about corruption within the government, urging ministers not committed to the nation’s well-being to resign.
Hadiyyatullah further highlighted the role of the Sharia Council in supporting the Muslim-Muslim ticket’s success but expressed disappointment in the lack of achievements over the past seven months. He urged ministers to step down if they are not dedicated to serving the country honestly.
Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima, called on Nigerians to support the administration, citing the recent Supreme Court judgment as evidence of the President’s democratic values. Yerima emphasized the need for electoral system reform and constitutional review to align with current societal realities.
The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Muhammad Sani Bello, underscored the importance of accountability and ethical leadership for a better Nigeria, stating, “The person who puts himself under reckoning in this world is the one who will have a very easy reckoning on the day of judgment.”
