Super Eagles’ Osimhen Picked for Random Drug Testing by CAF at AFCON 2023
Confederation of African Football (CAF) has picked Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for random drug tests. The Napoli forward underwent testing twice in four games, notably against hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon, according to sources close to the situation.
Osimhen played a crucial role in Nigeria’s success, contributing significantly in key matches. His performance included winning a penalty against Cote d’Ivoire, leading to a 1-0 victory. In the last-16 clash against Cameroon, Osimhen showcased a dominant display, setting up the first goal for Ademola Lookman and maintaining a constant threat until his late substitution for Paul Onuachu.
Despite being tested, Osimhen has been a standout player for the Super Eagles, securing a 2-0 win against the Indomitable Lions and scoring his sole goal in the tournament during the 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in the initial fixtures.
As the current CAF Player of the Year, Osimhen is expected to continue leading the attacking line for the three-time champions as they face Angola in the upcoming quarter-finals this week.
