“Stop Hiding Behind Image Launderers” – PDP Chieftain Tells Akpabio Over Sexual Harassment Allegation
Mohammed Abdullahi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa, has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to directly address the sexual harassment allegation made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
Abdullahi criticized what he described as a coordinated attempt to deflect from the issue through media manipulation and third-party interventions. He particularly condemned the involvement of Sandra Duru, also known as Professor Mgbake, who recently claimed that Akpoti-Uduaghan lacked evidence to support her accusation.
He said Duru’s inconsistent statements have undermined her credibility, adding that Akpabio’s reliance on such figures instead of presenting a direct and factual response is dishonourable. “Rather than defend himself with honour, Akpabio has chosen to hide behind people whose public records are smeared with controversy and criminal allegations,” Abdullahi stated.
He stressed that the gravity of a sexual harassment allegation should not be trivialized or treated as a public spectacle. Abdullahi urged Akpabio to demonstrate leadership and integrity by responding to the claim transparently, insisting that no public officeholder should be above scrutiny.
The controversy follows a March 6 incident in which the Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan after a confrontation with Akpabio over seating arrangements. Days ago, the senator posted a sarcastic apology to Akpabio on Facebook, expressing “deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret” for what she mockingly described as the “grievous crime of possessing dignity and self-respect” in his presence.
