Southern Policeman’s Sons Killed, Home Burned in Ethnic-Driven Attack by Youths in Yobe
In a tragic incident in Buni Yadi, a town in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, armed youths attacked the home of a police officer, killing his two sons and setting his property on fire. The victims, aged 20 and 13, were brutally murdered when the assailants stormed the house around 2 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025.
According to a security source, the attack was allegedly fueled by accusations that the officer, originally from Southern Nigeria, was too strict in handling cases involving local suspects. The source described the policeman as hardworking and dedicated but said he was targeted because he was not from the region.
Further investigations suggest that some of the officer’s own colleagues at the Buni Yadi police station may have been complicit in the attack. Initial speculation linked the killings to Boko Haram, a group that has previously terrorized the town. However, intelligence reports now indicate that local police officers and youths orchestrated the assault.
The attack has raised concerns about deteriorating security conditions and ethnic tensions within law enforcement agencies. The police officer, who managed to escape the assault, has since fled Yobe State for his hometown.
