South-West SDP Urges Tinubu to Seek Atiku, Obi’s Guidance in Tackling Nigeria’s Challenges

In a post-Supreme Court judgment statement, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has offered counsel to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to consider the blueprints of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi to expedite the nation-building process in Nigeria.

The South-West Zonal Secretary of the SDP, Mr. Femi Olaniyi, conveyed this advice during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos, following the Supreme Court’s decision on Thursday.

Olaniyi emphasized the importance of President Tinubu seeking advice and ideas from his former political challengers, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP). He noted that both Atiku and Obi had vied for the presidency with the aim of alleviating the suffering of the Nigerian masses and reshaping the country.

The SDP official stressed the need for unity among the nation’s leaders, stating that political differences should be put aside in the interest of the country’s future. He suggested that Atiku and Obi should be willing to contribute their ideas to help Nigeria excel on the international stage.

Olaniyi emphasized that the responsibility of improving the nation was not solely on President Tinubu’s shoulders but should be a collective effort by all stakeholders.

With the Supreme Court’s verdict confirming President Tinubu’s election victory, the SDP representative encouraged the president to focus on key issues like reviving the economy and reducing inflation. He highlighted that this is a crucial time for the president to concentrate on governance and nation-building.

In its judgment, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeals made by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP, and Mr. Peter Obi of the LP, who challenged Tinubu’s victory in the February 25th election. Justice John Okoro, delivering the lead verdict, affirmed President Tinubu’s election as Nigeria’s president in the 2023 general election.
