Soldiers Foil Kidnap Attempt in Kogi, Eliminate Terrorists in Zamfara

Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a potential kidnapping incident involving passengers aboard three commercial buses along the Akpata-Obajana Road in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State. Additionally, in a separate operation, insurgents were neutralized in Zamfara State. The Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed these events in a statement released on Friday.

According to the statement, vigilant troops swiftly intervened to prevent the kidnap attempt, rescuing the passengers and engaging the criminals in pursuit. Some passengers sustained injuries during the incident and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

In a related operation, troops deployed for counterinsurgency activities in the North West region conducted a successful raid on a kidnappers’ hideout in the Kuyambana general area, along the Magawa-Migetso Road in Zamfara State. During the operation, two insurgents were killed in a confrontation with the troops.

The troops recovered a cache of weapons from the insurgents’ camp, including a pump-action gun, a locally fabricated gun, live cartridges, a locally made pistol, a handset, and a tying chain used to restrain kidnapped victims. The camp was subsequently destroyed by the troops.

This development comes on the heels of recent successful military operations, including the neutralization of two terrorists and the recovery of weapons by soldiers attached to the 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State, as earlier reported.
