Sokoto Establishes Community Guards Corps to Combat Banditry
Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto has given his approval to a bill paving the way for the establishment of the ‘Community Guards Corps’ as part of the state’s proactive measures against rising incidents of kidnappings and banditry.
Governor Aliyu highlighted the significance of this move, considering it a pivotal achievement in his administration’s commitment to ensuring the security and development of Sokoto. The primary objective is to address the escalating threats posed by criminal activities, including kidnappings and banditry.
The governor expressed gratitude to the Sokoto House of Assembly for their unwavering support in bringing this initiative to fruition. He clarified that the creation of the Community Guards Corps is not intended to challenge existing security agencies but rather to strengthen their efforts by identifying and addressing societal threats.
“This initiative aims to complement the dedication of our security agencies, working collaboratively to identify and support the removal of undesirable elements from our society,” Governor Aliyu stressed during the announcement.
He reiterated the administration’s dedication to guaranteeing the safety of citizens, their property, and overall well-being. The governor urged citizens to continue supporting the government through prayers and sharing information, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in fostering a secure environment in Sokoto.
The establishment of the Community Guards Corps is seen as a strategic move to engage neighboring states in a joint effort against insecurity. Governor Aliyu emphasized the need for collaboration with statutory security agencies to create a safer and more livable environment for all citizens.
