Six Days On, Whereabouts of Abducted Ex-Delta Lawmaker Still Unknown
Six days have passed since Joan Mrakpor, former representative of the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency at the House of Representatives, was abducted in Asaba, Delta State. Her whereabouts remain unknown.
Mrakpor, who recently served as the Commissioner for Technical Education in Delta State, was taken from a church near Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba, where she was worshipping last Tuesday. During the violent kidnapping, two people, including her police orderly, were shot dead.
Reports indicate that the kidnappers transported Mrakpor to the bank of the River Niger via Otu-Ogwu Road in Asaba. There, they transferred her to a waiting speed boat and set their car on fire before escaping with their captive to an unknown location.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed yesterday that the police are actively pursuing the kidnappers, but there have been no significant developments in locating Mrakpor.
