Shun Planned Nationwide Protest; It Is Against Islamic Religion, Cleric Tells Katsina Youths
Katsina youths are being urged to steer clear of a planned nationwide protest against economic hardship by Sheikh Yakubu Musa, Chairman of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’kamatus Sunnah, Katsina State. Addressing Muslim faithful after Friday prayers at Al-Sanawiyya Mosque in Katsina, Musa emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and warned that protests could lead to greater instability.
Sheikh Musa highlighted that protests contradict Islamic principles and called for Muslims to avoid participating. He acknowledged the country’s economic challenges but argued that protests could exacerbate the situation rather than improve it.
“Instead of getting out of that hardship, we may end up jumping into a bigger one. Like here in Katsina, we are also disturbed by insecurity. We should shun the planned protest. We should not be part of it. Our youths should also shun from being part of it. Because it could destroy the nation, we have seen what happened in some countries where as a result of protest, the countries had been thrown into war and total destruction,” he stated.
Sheikh Musa assured that the government is aware of the country’s hardships and urged authorities to take measures to alleviate the situation. He also addressed the Samoa agreement, clarifying that representatives from various Islamic sects had met with Federal Government representatives to discuss concerns about the inclusion of LGBTQ issues in the agreement.
“We have met and discussed with the Federal Government’s representatives who told us that LGBTQ was not part of the Samoa agreement. Those who signed the agreement swore to Allah that LGBTQ was not contained in the agreement,” he explained.
To ensure thorough examination, a committee of expert scholars and professional lawyers has been formed to study the agreement and report their findings.
“Our professional lawyers are now studying the whole agreement and will feed us back after their investigation. So, we should pray for the committee to do a thorough job. We pray that Allah will enable them to detect that if it is in the content. If that is the case, we will then pressurise the government to remove it,” he concluded.
In response to critics who claim that clerics have not conveyed the nation’s struggles to the government, Musa reaffirmed their ongoing efforts to communicate the real situation.
