“We Are in Office to Serve, Not Dominate,” Presidency Affirms Nigerians’ Right to Peaceful Protest
The Presidency has reiterated its commitment to upholding Nigerians’ right to peaceful protest, affirming the administration of President Bola Tinubu’s stance on this fundamental freedom.
Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale emphasized this position during an interview on TVC, which was monitored by our correspondent on Sunday night. Ngelale stressed that no official within the current administration has the authority to prevent Nigerians from exercising their right to peaceful protest anywhere in the country.
“There is nobody within our administration that has the standing or command to tell any Nigerian that they can’t peacefully protest in any part of the country,” Ngelale stated.
He further added, “We are in office to serve, not dominate our people.”
This statement comes amidst increasing condemnation from various government officials, traditional and religious leaders, and groups regarding the planned nationwide protests against hardship and hunger set for August 1.
SK Blog reports that these protests are being organized in response to the growing economic challenges facing the nation.
