“She Won Without Rigging—Something Akpabio and Bello Can’t Do” – Chidi Odinkalu on Sen. Natasha’s Well-Attended Homecoming
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s return to Kogi Central was nothing short of a political thunderstorm, defying curfews and police restrictions to a hero’s welcome. Thousands flooded the streets in a massive show of support, proving that no amount of intimidation from Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Governor Yahaya Bello could erase her influence.
Human rights lawyer Chidi Odinkalu captured the moment perfectly, tweeting: “In Kogi State, the criminal conspiracy of @Senator_Akpabio & @OfficialGYBKogi has run into an irrepressible problem. The name of that problem is @NatashaAkpoti. This woman won an election without rigging, something that neither Akpabio nor Yahaya Bello can do.”
Despite a state-imposed curfew and police warnings, Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived to an electrified crowd. Holding a Nigerian flag, she danced and declared, “Nobody and nothing can stop me from coming home. I’m an Ebira person; this is my land.”
Her suspension from the Senate and the ongoing attempts to recall her appear to have only strengthened her grassroots support. With this show of defiance, Akpoti-Uduaghan has sent a clear message—she is not backing down, and neither are the people standing with her.
