Senate Responds to Senator Natasha’s Request to Resume Duties

The Senate has rejected Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s request to resume her legislative duties, maintaining that her six-month suspension remains in effect until the Court of Appeal delivers judgment on the matter.

In a letter signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Senate confirmed it had received notice from the senator indicating her intention to return on September 4, 2025, which she argued marked the expiration of her suspension. However, the Senate clarified that the suspension took effect on March 6, 2025, and stressed that the case is now before the Court of Appeal.

“The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the letter stated.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended in March after the Senate accused her of breaching its standing orders. The Federal High Court in Abuja upheld the suspension, prompting her to appeal. The Senate said it would only reconsider her suspension once the appellate court issues its ruling.
