Senate President, Ahmed Lawan leads delegation to welcome Orji Uzor Kalu back from prison
One day after Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia, was released from prison, the President of the Senate Ahmed Lawan led a delegation to his residence to welcome him back.
Kalu alongside a former director of finance and account of Abia state, Ude Jones Udeogu were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 36 counts of money laundering to the tune of N7.1 billion and both jailed in December 2019.
They appealed the verdict of the court and won their appeal at the supreme court. Kalu’s co accused had already been released from prison custody a few weeks ago but Kalu needed to get an order from the court for his release to be auctioned.
