Rumoured Collapse: Wike Breaks Silence

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed rumors about his health, insisting he is in good health and continuing his duties as the FCT minister. Wike made this statement on Thursday in Abuja while reacting to reports that he collapsed last Friday and was flown abroad for medical treatment.

The minister, who was inspecting ongoing projects in Abuja at the time, described the rumors as purely political. He emphasized that there was no truth to the claim that he had collapsed or been sent overseas for medical care.

“I did not collapse, and no one took me anywhere for treatment,” Wike clarified. “It is human beings that collapse if there is any problem with their health, but I am healthy and showing no signs of illness. In fact, I’m healthier than many of those spreading these rumors.”

Wike expressed his confidence that the individuals behind the speculation would soon regret their actions. “I can assure you that I will write their condolence letters,” he said.

The minister pointed out that while the rumors circulated, he was actively inspecting road projects in Abuja. He also mentioned that he was present when President Bola Tinubu broke his fast during Ramadan on his birthday and led the Sallah homage to the President the following day.

Wike dismissed the speculation as political maneuvering, stating, “This is politics, but I have thick skin for such ill feelings. These things don’t bother us. We remain focused on our jobs.”

He thanked Nigerians for their concern but urged people not to wish harm upon others. “We will die one day, and nobody will remain in this world forever,” Wike added.

Regarding the ongoing projects, Wike expressed optimism that the International Conference Centre would be ready for inauguration in May. He also praised the progress of road projects in areas like Gishiri and Katampe Districts, particularly the road leading to the Judges Quarters.

“I am very impressed with the quality and pace of these projects. We are on track to inaugurate several of them to mark the second anniversary of Mr. President’s administration,” Wike concluded.
