Rivers SSG Cautions Critics: Fubara’s Calm Demeanour Not a Sign of Weakness

The Secretary to the Government of Rivers State, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has warned that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s calm and measured approach to governance should not be mistaken for weakness. His remarks come amid growing criticism from political opponents, particularly the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Speaking to journalists at the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, Dr. Danagogo addressed concerns surrounding his role in the administration, especially after Wike labelled a letter he signed to invite lawmakers to a meeting with the governor as “useless.” Danagogo defended the letter, stating that it was within the scope of his official duties and not an overstep. He emphasized that there was nothing inappropriate about the SSG initiating communication for an informal engagement with lawmakers.

Danagogo, who also served as SSG during Wike’s second term as governor, insisted his actions were consistent with past practices and not influenced by politics. He said his response was necessary to correct misinformation and clarify his constitutional responsibilities.

He praised Governor Fubara for his restraint during recent political tension, including the incident where the State Assembly complex was locked, blocking the governor from presenting the 2025 budget. Danagogo noted that in similar situations, past governors might have reacted more forcefully, but Fubara chose to act responsibly to avoid worsening the crisis.

Assuring the public of the government’s commitment to their well-being, Danagogo said Governor Fubara’s refusal to escalate tensions is rooted in his desire to protect the state’s economic stability and prevent actions that could harm the citizens.
