Rivers Police Arrest Married Man for Stabbing Side Chick After Rejected Marriage Proposal
Police in Rivers State have arrested a 46-year-old married man, identified as Abi Baragon, for allegedly stabbing his side chick, Orineme Ayanate, multiple times after she rejected his marriage proposal.
The case gained public attention after a viral video circulated in June 2025, showing the victim crying for help while lying in a pool of blood. In a statement released on October 17, the state police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that operatives from the Human Rights Department at the State Headquarters in Port Harcourt launched an immediate investigation. Acting on intelligence and technical support, officers arrested Baragon on October 13 in connection with the attack.
According to police reports, the assault was allegedly triggered when Ayanate discovered that Baragon was already married with four children and refused his proposal. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to attacking her with broken bottles.
The victim is currently receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries, while the suspect remains in police custody. Authorities have commenced an in-depth investigation to uncover the full details surrounding the incident.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, praised the swift response of the officers involved and expressed appreciation to members of the public for providing credible information that led to the arrest.
A video of the victim receiving medical treatment has continued to circulate on social media.
