Rivers Police Arrest 23-Year-Old Man for Macheting 44-Year-Old Girlfriend to Death
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, 44-year-old Confidence Konebari Sunny, in Umuebulu community, Etche Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. She disclosed that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit apprehended the suspect at his hideout in Egbeta village, Edo State, on August 15.
According to police reports, Chinamezu—also known as “Power Sharp”—allegedly attacked Confidence with a machete on July 30, 2025, killing her before fleeing to Edo State. From his hideout, he reportedly issued threats to the victim’s family, claiming he could harm them without consequence.
“Following a formal complaint by the victim’s family, the case was assigned to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit,” the statement read. “Utilizing technical intelligence, operatives tracked down the suspect and arrested him. During interrogation, he voluntarily confessed to the crime.”
Police say evidence is still being gathered, and the suspect is undergoing profiling to determine his possible involvement in other criminal activities. He will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the swift response of the operatives, stressing that Rivers State will not tolerate criminal activities.
He further warned: “Perpetrators of heinous crimes should desist, as the long arm of the law will catch up with them. Justice will be served.”
