Rivers Assembly Rejects Four Commissioner Nominees Submitted by Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has declined to confirm four commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The nominees appeared before lawmakers for screening on Monday at the Assembly complex in Port Harcourt.

Following the screening exercise, the Assembly confirmed five nominees: Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr. Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth, and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.

However, four nominees—Professor Datonye Alasia, Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, and Otonye TKD Amachree—were not confirmed.

Lawmakers said Alasia was rejected over what they described as poor performance in his previous role. He served as Chairman of the Chief Medical Advisory Committee at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

Amachree’s nomination was turned down after lawmakers cited more than 11 petitions from members of his community alleging issues related to his involvement in community affairs.

Deemua was not confirmed because she did not present tax clearance documents during the screening process, according to the Assembly.

Williams’ nomination was also stepped down after lawmakers accused him of misleading the public about the activities of the Assembly.
