“Revolution Looming if Hunger Continues to Afflict Nigerians,” Aregbesola Warns Tinubu

In a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola cautioned that the worsening economic conditions in Nigeria could lead to social upheaval if left unaddressed. Speaking during a panel session at the National Dialogue on the Parliamentary Bill in Abuja, Aregbesola highlighted the urgency of reversing economic and social inequalities affecting millions of Nigerians.

Aregbesola pointed to a growing gap between the wealthy elite and the rest of the country, noting that the hardships facing the majority of Nigerians are reaching critical levels. “We have seen worsening economic—even political and spiritual—conditions of Nigerians,” he remarked, emphasizing that these issues are apparent to anyone following Nigeria’s economic trajectory. According to Aregbesola, the number of prosperous Nigerians is shrinking each day, deepening the rift between the rich and poor and creating fertile ground for potential unrest.

Reflecting on his own experience, Aregbesola noted that the concentration of wealth among a few was less pronounced in previous decades. “When I was born and during my developmental years, wealth was not as limited to the hands of a very few people as it is today,” he stated. He expressed concern that current conditions have reached a point where people may no longer tolerate the growing inequality.

Calling for urgent action from the Tinubu administration, Aregbesola warned that “whatever does not give appropriate opportunity or rights to the people will be resisted no matter what you do.” He cautioned that failure to address these disparities could incite a movement against the government. “If other things fail, people can revolt,” he warned, urging leaders to take preventive measures before discontent spills over.
