Residents Rescue Newborn Baby Abandoned in Anambra Forest
A newborn baby was discovered abandoned in a forest located in Abagana, within the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. The infant was rescued by alert residents who promptly took action to save the child’s life.
According to a reliable source, the concerned residents, upon finding the abandoned infant, immediately initiated efforts to provide care and rehabilitation for the newborn. It is believed that the baby had endured approximately two days of exposure in the forest before being discovered.
“The baby is doing well; he is stable,” stated the source, indicating that despite the challenging circumstances, the newborn’s condition is currently under control.
A video capturing the rescue mission has since gone viral on social media platforms, further corroborating the incident. In the footage, local midwives are seen tenderly cleansing the baby, expressing their dismay and condemnation towards those responsible for abandoning the helpless child in the forest.
Expressing their incredulity, one of the women, accompanied by a male voice recording the video, questioned the moral integrity of anyone who could carry a baby for nine months, only to callously discard them in such a manner.
As of the time of reporting, efforts to obtain a reaction from the police regarding the distressing development were unsuccessful. Calls made to the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Tochukwu Ikenga, remained unanswered, leaving unanswered questions regarding the legal ramifications and investigations into the abandonment of the newborn.
