The House of Representatives is seeking to eliminate the Senate’s exclusive constitutional authority over the confirmation of appointments.

Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu revealed that the House has received several memoranda proposing constitutional amendments to redistribute these powers, removing the Senate’s monopoly. Kalu made this announcement during the discussion of a conference report on the South-East Development Commission Bill, prompted by concerns raised by lawmaker Isiaka Ibrahim (APC, Ogun) about the Senate’s dominance in this area.

This is part of the ongoing constitutional review.”

This initiative is anticipated to set the stage for a significant clash between the House and the Senate. However, the Senate might have the advantage, as they could potentially reject the bill when it comes before them.
