Reno Omokri Reveals How He Recommended Peter Obi to Atiku Abubakar for Running Mate in 2019

In a recent interview on the “Mic On” podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye from Channels Television, Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, claimed that he was instrumental in recommending Peter Obi to be Atiku Abubakar’s running mate during the 2019 presidential elections. Omokri, who consulted with former President Jonathan before making the recommendation, explained his decision to support Obi as Atiku’s running mate.

Omokri recounted the process that led to his recommendation, saying, “Peter Obi cannot deny that I was the one who recommended him to Waziri Atiku Abubakar. Waziri Atiku Abubakar asked me to help him choose a running mate.” He added that after discussing with Jonathan, the former president agreed that Obi was a suitable candidate, leading to his inclusion on the list provided to Atiku.

Omokri went on to explain that he had also advised Obi on his presidential ambitions ahead of the 2023 elections. He recommended that Obi run as Atiku’s running mate and remain loyal to him, expecting that this path could lead to his eventual presidency. Omokri’s advice was disregarded, leading to criticism regarding Obi’s presidential campaign strategy and educational qualifications.

Further critiquing Obi’s performance as a former governor of Anambra, Omokri posed a challenge to his supporters, promising $10,000 to anyone who could name a school started, completed, and commissioned by Obi during his tenure. He asserted that the chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos had achieved more in governance than Obi during his time as governor.

Omokri’s comments have stirred debate among political observers and supporters of Peter Obi, with many challenging the validity of his statements.
