Reno Omokri berates Peter Obi for referring to new Olubadan of Ibadan as ‘’My Dear Brother”
Reno Omokri has taken a swipe at former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for addressing the newly installed Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, as “my dear brother.”
Oba Ladoja was officially installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan on Friday, September 26. Following the ceremony, Obi shared a congratulatory message on his social media page, where he celebrated the monarch, describing him as “my dear brother.” Obi recalled their time as governors of Anambra and Oyo states respectively and praised Ladoja as a statesman whose reign would further enrich Ibadan’s cultural heritage.
Omokri, however, criticized Obi’s choice of words, describing it as flippant and disrespectful. In a strongly worded statement on his social media handle, Omokri argued that the Olubadan, as a First Class King and royal father, should not be addressed in such casual terms. He stressed that Ibadan’s throne predates colonialism and is not comparable to titles created under British rule, insisting that the monarch deserves the highest level of honour and respect.
According to Omokri, Obi’s remark showed a lack of diplomacy and class. He noted that Obi would never dare to use the same expression for an Emir and should therefore not extend such familiarity to the Olubadan. Omokri further suggested that Obi’s approach reflects why he is unfit to be Nigeria’s president, branding him “a low-cultured individual” more suited to trading than to national leadership.
