“Release Gambaryan, We Want to Settle” – Binance Appeals to Nigerian Government
Binance Holdings Limited has called on the Nigerian Government to release its detained executive, Tigran Gambaryan, as the cryptocurrency giant seeks to resolve any outstanding issues with the country. The plea follows Gambaryan’s recent arraignment at the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of alleged money laundering.
During Monday’s court proceedings, Gambaryan was seen struggling to enter the courtroom on crutches, as he was denied access to a wheelchair. His legal team had requested bail on medical grounds and cited restricted access for trial preparation, but the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) opposed the bail application.
Binance condemned the Nigerian Government’s treatment of Gambaryan and expressed grave concerns about his deteriorating health. In a statement provided to newsmen, a Binance spokesperson criticized the decision to deny Gambaryan a wheelchair, highlighting the distressing video footage of his courtroom appearance.
“We are extremely distressed by the video of Tigran in court yesterday,” the statement read. “His health is rapidly declining, and we are deeply concerned about the long-term consequences of this unjust detention.”
Binance emphasized that resolving past issues does not require Gambaryan’s continued detention. The company urged the Nigerian Government to allow Gambaryan to return home so that discussions can proceed. Binance referenced its recent successful resolutions with Brazil and India as examples of how historical disputes can be settled through constructive dialogue and adherence to international legal standards.
The bail hearing is scheduled to continue on September 4th.
