RCCG dissociates self from Tinubu’s comments on Igbos in Lagos State

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dissociated itself from a statement made by Senator Remi Tinubu regarding Igbos living in Lagos.

Remi Tinubu had in a video that went viral lambasted Igbos living in Lagos State, stating that they are refusing to align themselves with the local politics and traditions of the state.

Social media users were enraged by the statements made in the video by a serving Senator and wife of the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

It was the general consensus that such statements were least expected from her person, and particularly from a Pastor in the RCCG.

In the video, she was heard saying Igbos who refuse to marry their Yoruba counterparts will be chased out of Lagos State.

She further said that the love the state government was showing to them should be reciprocated, stating that Igbos in the State are proving difficult.

She went on to say, “We will entreat all the deities of Lagos to chase Igbo people out. Igbo who didn’t marry Yoruba, we will inherit them. Given how much we love Igbo, you now want to spoil everything.”

“You are not the only tribe in this place, Hausa are here, we accommodate them, Calabar are here, we accommodate them. But Igbo are proving difficult. We will inherit you.”

“Despite the love we have for you… others are here and we accommodated them.”

The Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG) through its Head of Media and Public Relations, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, has come out to say, the church was not aware of the video.

Olubiyi said “We are not aware of the video and I’m sure Remi Tinubu was not speaking as a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God,”

He asked about what the church looks out for before ordaining an individual as a Pastor in the church, Olubiyi said, “I’m not in a position to answer that because the church knows what it considers before ordination and social media does not dictate to the church what the church should do. She has her life.”
