Rainstorm Damages Newly Built Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja

A newly constructed multi-billion-naira bus terminal in Abuja has been partially damaged following a heavy rainstorm, disrupting traffic along a major commuter route in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Kugbo Bus Terminal, developed under the supervision of Nyesom Wike, was affected on Tuesday when intense rainfall and strong winds tore off parts of its roofing. Debris from the structure spilled onto the Maraba–Nyanya corridor, leaving sections of the road difficult to navigate.

The incident triggered widespread traffic congestion, with vehicles stranded for hours. Many commuters were forced to abandon their journeys and continue on foot as movement along the route slowed significantly.

Located along the busy Maraba–Nyanya axis, the Kugbo facility is one of several transport projects introduced by the FCT Administration to improve urban mobility and reduce congestion in Abuja. Despite its completion, the terminal has not yet commenced full commercial operations.

The project forms part of a broader N51 billion infrastructure plan approved by the Federal Executive Council in May 2024. The funding covers the construction of three major terminals in Kugbo, Mabushi, and the Central Business District, executed by Planet Projects Nigeria Limited.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the extent of the damage or potential timelines for repairs.
