Radio Nigeria Goes Off Air in Kogi Following Robbery Attack

Radio Nigeria’s Prime 101.5FM in Jimgbe, Kogi State, has gone off air after armed robbers attacked the station in the early hours of Saturday, stealing vital transmission equipment worth millions of naira. According to the General Manager of the station, Momoh-Jimoh Adeiza, the criminals operated for over three hours without interruption. The robbers tied up the security guard on duty before making away with copper components of feeder lines, 22 modules, armoured cables, generator batteries, and other essential items.

Speaking to journalists, Adeiza described the incident as a major setback, noting that the station is currently off air due to the scale of the damage. He appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the culprits and called on relevant authorities to assist the station in restoring its operations.

The security guard, Daniel Haruna, recounted his ordeal, saying the attackers—more than ten in number—were armed with guns and cutlasses. He said they tied him to a tree, blindfolded him, and proceeded with the robbery for over three hours. Haruna said he was helpless throughout the terrifying experience and had never encountered anything like it before.

The Kogi State Government condemned the attack, with the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, assuring that efforts are underway to support the station and bring the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting federal institutions in the state and urged agencies to remain vigilant and alert the state authorities when support is needed.
