Queen Zaynab, Former Wife of the Ooni of Ife, Marries SGF George Akume

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has married Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, the Akume Dajoh family announced on Friday.

In a Facebook post, family member Abraham Double-d Dajoh shared the announcement:

“We the entire Dajoh Family happily join our daddy, uncle, and brother, His Excellency, The Secretary To The Government Of The Federation, Sen. George Akume Jugu Dajoh, in welcoming his new wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family.”

The statement also thanked supporters of Sen. Akume and encouraged continued support of the union. Queen Zaynab was welcomed to Benue State, Mbakor—the seat of leadership of the Tiv nation—and the Dajoh family home. Several photos circulated online showing the couple with family members.

Queen Zaynab was previously married to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. Their traditional wedding took place on March 12, 2016, in Benin City, Edo State, followed by a reception at the Royal Court of Ife in Osun State. The marriage ended in August 2017, after roughly 17 months. In her public statement, Zaynab dismissed rumours of infidelity or infertility and confirmed the separation, noting her continued humanitarian work with the United Nations.

Following the divorce, she reverted to her maiden name, Zaynab Otiti Obanor, relocated to Doha, Qatar, and was later reported to have married an Arab prince, with whom she had a daughter in 2022.
