PSquare Splits Again: Paul, Peter Okoye Part Ways

Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has confirmed that the iconic music duo PSquare has split for the second time. This news was disclosed during an interview with City FM, Lagos, on Thursday, where Rudeboy cited creative differences and personal issues between him and his brother, Peter Okoye.

Rudeboy addressed rumors suggesting he had undermined Peter’s role in the group. “I was accused of saying that he [Peter] was the dancer and I’m the singer. Whenever we go to the airport, people ask, ‘Are you a singer or a dancer?’ I didn’t know it was affecting him. But we had discussed not letting such comments bother us, and that he should be proud of his role,” Rudeboy explained.

He further revealed that Peter expressed a desire to leave the group but refused to make the decision public. “The new PSquare was peaceful. I needed past mistakes not to repeat themselves. But then again, he [Peter] said he’s no longer interested. He told me face-to-face that he wants to quit. I asked if we could announce it publicly, and he refused. But what will happen when I go solo? People will call me the bad person. That’s why I’m speaking up now,” Rudeboy stated.

This split follows a recent attempt to reunite, which Rudeboy hoped would result in new hit albums. “The plan for our reunion was to produce many hit albums. But now, I’m just focusing on Rudeboy. Trust me, it is not everything that I would want to say,” he mentioned.

Rudeboy also highlighted their divergent visions for their music as a significant factor in the split. He wanted to equally share creative responsibilities, a plan that never came to fruition.

“We have a song we did with T.I, ‘Eja Jo’. That was when the issue started. Till today, that song is still on 3 million views because people didn’t hear the PSquare’s voice they were used to. I told my brother to show himself, let us be involved in the creative process together. I suggested we share the lead on tracks equally, but it wasn’t working,” Rudeboy said.
