If you were among those who double-checked their survival bunker, cleared their browser history, and sent dramatic farewell texts, you might have felt a little silly on 25 April 2024. Prophet Metuh, who claimed that the world was going to end on that day, backtracked after his prophecy turned out to be, well, a non-event.

Let’s rewind. Back in March, the Nigerian prophet posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account that the rapture was coming, and he saw it clearly—twice, no less. It was time to prepare. People listened, eyebrows raised, and some even packed emergency snacks (just in case).

Fast forward to 25 April. Instead of angels descending from the heavens, we had the same old news and social media memes poking fun at the prophet’s missed call. Twitter was filled with people wondering whether they missed the rapture or if it was just running fashionably late.

When the prophesied day came and went without any cataclysmic event, Prophet Metuh pulled out his “get-out-of-jail-free” card: fasting and prayer. He explained that he and his church had done 21 days of it, and that’s why the rapture didn’t happen. So, if you were one of the skeptics, this was the reason you got to keep your weekend plans.

Did I miss something?”

Prophet Metuh’s justification of fasting and prayer might not have convinced everyone, but it sure added some comic relief to what could have been a tense moment.
