Prophet Arrested for Raping 15year old girl

A Prophet identified as Ebenezer Ogunmefun aged 57 years has been arrested and arraigned on a one-count charge of sexual abuse, before an Ogun State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abeokuta for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.

The mother of the girl was reported to have taken the girl to the prophet’s church for deliverance, which included spiritual cleansing.

Inspector Moshood Hammed, who is the Police Prosecutor told the court that the Prophet who resides at No. 1 Prof. Ajibo Toluca Pioneer Street, Olomore area, Abeokuta, Ogun State had told the victim’s mother that the girl was possessed by evil spirits and needed urgent deliverance.

It was alleged that while the girl was in the church for “refuge”, the Prophet had raped her and thereafter, made the victim swear by the Bible never to tell anyone about what happened.

The Police prosecutor said the offense contravened Section 33 of the Child Rights Law of Ogun State, 2006.

The Prophet however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prophet was consequently granted bail in the sum of N750,000 with two sureties.

The Magistrate, Solomon Banwo ordered that one of the sureties must be the defendant’s spouse and the other must be a community leader.

The case has been adjourned till September 2, 2020.
