PROFESSOR CONVICTED FOR RIGGING FOR GODSWILL AKPABIO
An Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Collation/ Returning Officer, and University of Uyo lecturer, Prof Peter Ogban has been sentenced to 36 months in prison without an option of fine.
Ogban was found guilty of two-counts, Falsification and Announcing fake election results by an Akwa Ibom State High Court, Ikot Ekpene Division presided over by Justice Augustine Odokwo.
Ogban was the Collation and Returning officer in the 2019 National Assembly elections for Akwa Ibom Northwest Senatorial District and was found guilty of adding figures in Oruk Anam and Etim Ekpo LGAs to the advantage of the All Progressives Congress, APC, while reducing figures scored by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the same LGAs.
The APC candidate for the election was Sen Godswill Akpabio while the PDP candidate was Sen Chris Ekpenyong.
