Pro-Fubara Rally Paralyzes Port Harcourt; Thousands Demand Governor’s Briefing

A massive show of support for Governor Siminilayi Fubara brought the main town to a standstill as thousands gathered in a peaceful solidarity rally, disrupting normal commercial activities.

Beginning as early as 7 a.m., diverse groups, including student unions, civil liberty organizations, and the Hausa community, congregated at the Government House main gate along Azikiwe Road. Coordinated by Comrade Levi Okoru, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) emphasized their demand for the Governor to address the public regarding the recent meeting in Abuja with the President.

In an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Comrade Okoru stated, “We are here to demand that our Governor speak to us on what happened in the meeting he attended in Abuja at the instant of the President. This is a solidarity visit, and as our father, he went on a trip. Now that he is back, we want him to brief us. We also want him to know that no matter the pressure he is passing through, Rivers State students are solidly behind him.”

Adding to the sentiments, Comrade Abbey Precious Sime-Ipiri, the National President of Rivers State students, voiced their unwavering support for Governor Fubara. He highlighted the Governor’s commitment to paying “our bursary after eight years” as a key factor in garnering student support.

Regarding the peace agreement, Comrade Abbey dismissed it, stating, “Those things were just mere directives by the President and they are not binding since they are not known laws.” The rally signifies a groundswell of backing for Governor Fubara amid ongoing developments.
