Presidential Poll: Today is Judgement Day
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja will today deliver judgment on the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar challenging the declaration of president Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the February 23 presidential poll.
Atiku and the PDP have approached the tribunal seeking the cancellation of the election which they claimed was manipulated in favour of Buhari and the APC. The Petitioners also sought the disqualification of Buhari from the poll on account of his educational qualifications.
Atiku and PDP called 62 witnesses out of 400 they listed to support their claims while the APC and Buhari called only 7 witnesses.
Buhari was declared the winner of the election with 15,191,847 votes, while Abubakar, his closest challenger, polled 11,262,978 votes according to the results declared by the INEC.
