President Tinubu Appoints Dr. Olasupo Olusi as Managing Director of Bank of Industry (BOI)
President Bola Tinubu has officially announced the appointment of Dr. Olasupo Olusi as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Industry (BOI) for a term of four years. This decision comes after the voluntary resignation of the former BOI Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Olukayode Pitan.
Dr. Olasupo Olusi brings a wealth of experience to this crucial role, having served as a World Bank economist and development finance expert for over two decades. Notably, between 2011 and 2015, he acted as the economic adviser to the then Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance. Dr. Olusi is an alumnus of Hull University, United Kingdom, and holds a Masters degree in International Money, Finance, and Investment, along with a Doctorate in Finance and Economics from Durham University, United Kingdom, which he obtained in 2005.
President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence in Dr. Olusi’s capabilities, emphasizing the need for all sizes of enterprises across various sectors in Nigeria to have equitable access to much-needed support. The President’s vision is to stimulate employment generation and wealth creation, with particular attention to lower and middle-income enterprise operators. This move is expected to have a significant impact on income groups in the country.
In his role as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BOI, Dr. Olusi is entrusted with the critical task of bolstering economic growth by providing essential support to Nigerian businesses. This appointment aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fostering economic development, particularly in the lower and middle-income segments of the population.
This development has been met with enthusiasm by economic experts and business leaders, who believe that Dr. Olusi’s extensive experience and expertise will contribute to the growth and prosperity of Nigeria’s business landscape.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President for Media & Publicity, made this announcement on October 19, 2023. The President’s choice of Dr. Olusi as the new head of BOI signals the government’s dedication to creating an inclusive and thriving business environment in Nigeria.
