Presidency Explains Why Tinubu is Heading to France from the UK
The presidency has provided clarification regarding President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip from the United Kingdom to France, following a wave of criticism and concerns over his absence from Nigeria. Tinubu is currently on a two-week leave in the UK, which has raised questions about his travel decisions during this period.
On Friday, news broke that the president had departed the UK for France, prompting mixed reactions on social media. Many users expressed their dissatisfaction and questioned the appropriateness of Tinubu’s travel while on leave from his official duties.
In response to these criticisms, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the president, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to defend Tinubu’s movements. Onanuga asserted that the president is not confined to the UK and is free to travel as he pleases during his time off.
“President Tinubu is on leave for two weeks. He is not restricted to the UK,” Onanuga stated. “It is his private time. He can go anywhere he so desires. He is still observing his leave.”
