“Pray for President Tinubu, Not Condemn Him” – Methodist Archbishop Akinwale

ABUJA – The Methodist Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Dr. Michael Akinwale, has called on Nigerians to offer prayers for President Bola Tinubu’s administration rather than engaging in condemnation. Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, which marked the 40th anniversary of the Methodist Church in Abuja, Akinwale emphasized the need for divine intervention as the key to resolving the nation’s challenges.

Akinwale stressed that criticism alone cannot address the deep-seated issues facing Nigeria and urged both the leadership and the citizens to seek God’s guidance in navigating the country through its difficulties.

“The only solution to Nigeria’s problems is to take this nation back to God,” Akinwale stated, drawing a parallel with the American motto, “In God We Trust.” He urged Nigerians to resist the urge to condemn their leaders, noting that the success of the nation depends on a collective return to faith and divine guidance.

In his message, the Archbishop highlighted the necessity of both leaders and citizens committing themselves to prayer and seeking God’s direction. “We are all stakeholders in this nation,” he added, “and we have a duty to pray for our nation and our leaders. No leader can succeed without divine help.”

Akinwale also took the opportunity to outline the contributions of the Methodist Church to Abuja’s development over the past four decades. He mentioned the church’s significant role in the fields of education, healthcare, and social welfare, including the establishment of schools and hospitals. He further revealed plans to expand these services beyond Abuja, with the intention of establishing more churches, schools, and hospitals in other regions.

Reflecting on the growth of the church since its humble beginnings in 1983, Akinwale noted the expansion of the Methodist Church in Abuja, which now boasts over 3,000 cathedral seats and has extended its reach to Niger State. He shared the church’s ambitious vision for the next 40 years, aiming to spread the gospel and provide services across the nation, reaching “every hamlet, every nook, and cranny.”

As the church prepares for its future expansion, Akinwale reiterated its commitment to its mission of spreading the gospel and serving humanity, stating, “Our mission, vision, and plan for the next 40 years is to spread the gospel.”

The Archbishop’s message comes at a critical time, encouraging Nigerians to unite in prayer and support as the nation navigates its current challenges.
