Portable Defeats Speed Darlington in Fiery Celebrity Boxing Match
It was chaos, fists, and fanfare in Lagos as controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, defeated fellow entertainer Speed Darlington in a celebrity boxing match that lived up to its billing. Tagged *“Chaos in the Ring,”* the bout took place Saturday morning at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Victoria Island, marking the peak of a long-standing rivalry between the two internet sensations.
What began as an online feud full of taunts and insults ended with Portable securing victory via technical knockout (TKO). The 31-year-old singer dominated the first round, and Speed Darlington, real name Darlington Okoye, was unable to return for the second round. The referee subsequently declared Portable the winner after assessing Darlington’s condition, which reportedly included an injured right wrist. Viral footage from the event captured the high energy and aggressive exchanges between both fighters, though it was Portable’s superior agility and force that ultimately decided the outcome.
In the buildup to the match, both artists exchanged fiery words and dramatic threats online. Portable branded himself a “lion” and dismissed Darlington as a “mosquito,” while Darlington made dark threats about defeating and burying his rival. The tension nearly spilled over ahead of the fight when organisers had to physically restrain Portable during their pre-fight face-off.
Despite the loss, Speed Darlington remained defiant. In an Instagram video after the fight, he thanked the event’s promoter and stated he was proud of his performance, noting it was his first official boxing match. In another clip, he claimed he had suffered a dislocated shoulder and even suggested that Portable might have used traditional charms to secure the win.
The grudge match traces back to May 2024 when Speed Darlington mocked Portable’s arrest over an unpaid balance on a ₦27 million G-Wagon. Their beef intensified when Portable rejected a ₦500,000 offer to perform at Darlington’s show, calling him “poor” and saying he only charges ₦20 million per gig. Just a day before the fight, Darlington added a bizarre twist by visiting a coffin shop, allegedly to buy a casket for his opponent.
This marks Portable’s second publicized win in the boxing ring. In December 2023, he also defeated actor Charles Okocha in another celebrity fight, which stemmed from an unresolved financial dispute. That match, too, was surrounded by intense online drama and ended with Portable walking away victorious.
The latest bout only cements Portable’s reputation as an entertainer who doesn’t shy away from taking his feuds offline—and into the ring.
