Popular Lagos Pastor Gets Life Imprisonment for Rape of Church Member

The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to Pastor Feyi Daniels, the founder of I Reign Christian Ministry, for the grave crime of “raping a church member.”

Presiding over the case, Justice Rahman Oshodi delivered the judgment on Friday, declaring the clergyman guilty of rape and sexual assault against a female worshipper. The charges brought forward by the Lagos state government included rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault committed against members of his congregation.

Facing an amended four-count charge related to rape, sexual assault, and attempted rape, Daniels was accused of victimizing three church members, both at his residence in Lekki and on the premises of his church in Ikeja.

The legal saga unfolded when, in May 2023, the pastor was remanded in custody for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman at his Lekki residence. During the court proceedings, the victim testified that Daniels had engaged in sexual misconduct during a prayer session while speaking in tongues.

This landmark case serves as a stern reminder of the imperative to address instances of abuse within religious institutions and holds individuals accountable for their actions.
