Popular Anambra ‘Juju Master’ Akwa Okuko Arrested by Vigilante Operatives
Anambra’s well-known celebrity spiritualist, Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba, has been arrested by local vigilante operatives, Agunechemba. His arrest was confirmed in a statement posted on the Soludo TV Facebook page on Saturday.
According to the post, Akwa Okuko has been detained for further investigation by security agencies. The reason for his arrest has not been officially disclosed, but reports indicate he is accused of preparing charms for criminals, particularly kidnappers posing as internet fraudsters.
The arrest follows the recent enactment of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, 2025, which imposes strict penalties on native doctors who create or administer charms linked to criminal activities. The law specifically bans practices involving charms like ‘Odeshi,’ ‘Okeite,’ and ‘Mkpu Egbe,’ which are believed to offer supernatural protection. Violators now face up to six years in prison, a fine of N20 million, or both.
Authorities say the new law is designed to curb the misuse of traditional spiritual practices that have been linked to rising crime rates in the state. It also targets individuals who publicly promote such charms or claim to offer supernatural wealth and protection through illegal means.
