Policeman Honoured by Buhari for Rejecting $200,000 Bribe Converts to Islam

Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Amah, celebrated for rejecting a $200,000 bribe, has officially converted to Islam. The conversion ceremony took place at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, on Tuesday, where Amah adopted the name Muhammad.

The Emir welcomed Amah into the Islamic faith, urging him to seek knowledge about the religion and uphold the five pillars of Islam: belief in Allah, daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca, and charitable giving (Zakat). The Emir also prayed for divine guidance, hoping Amah would become an exemplary Muslim. Additionally, Amah was encouraged to maintain his good character and respect his parents, irrespective of their religious beliefs.

Amah first gained public attention as the Divisional Police Officer in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. In April 2022, he refused a $200,000 bribe offered by suspects involved in the robbery of over N300 million. The suspects, led by prime suspect Ali Zaki, had targeted a Bureau De Change operator carrying $750,000 in cash.

In recognition of his integrity, Amah was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police by the Police Service Commission on November 10, 2022. He also received the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award from former President Muhammadu Buhari, following a recommendation by the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye.
