Police Withdraw Officers from VIPs to Bolster Manpower Amid Shortages – DIG Alabi
In a strategic move to address manpower shortages, the Nigeria Police Force has withdrawn officers previously assigned to VIPs. This was announced by Sylvester Alabi, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Southwest.
During his maiden visit to the Ekiti State police headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, Alabi highlighted the need to optimize police resources. “We assessed our deployment and found areas where manpower was underutilized. Officers have been recalled from non-essential assignments,” he said.
Acknowledging the overall shortage of police personnel, Alabi noted, “The federal government has approved ongoing recruitment to ensure we can effectively fulfill our mandate.”
Alabi emphasized the importance of integrating technology into police operations, particularly in Ekiti State. “To achieve a crime-free environment, we will adopt drones and other technological tools. These advancements will enhance our capabilities in monitoring and combating crime.”
The DIG’s visit aligns with directives from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who instructed regional DIGs to assess the strategic deployment of resources and address challenges faced by officers.
Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Akinwale Adeniran, commended Alabi’s efforts and noted that under his leadership, the command has significantly reduced criminal activities through community policing strategies.
