Police to Join Employees Compensation Scheme, Says IGP Egbetokun

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will soon be enrolled in the Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS), according to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun. This move is intended to provide enhanced social benefits for police officers and personnel.

IGP Egbetokun made this announcement during a visit by the Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Oluwaseun Faleye, and other senior officials of the agency to Force Headquarters in Abuja over the weekend. He commended Faleye for the significant reforms he has introduced at the NSITF and assured that the police force will collaborate with the agency to ensure compliance with the ECS among both public and private employers.

“We are going to work together to ensure that the Nigerian Police Force becomes an active partner with the NSITF. We will contribute to the scheme and address any issues preventing the NPF from participating fully,” Egbetokun said in a statement released by Nwachukwu Godson, General Manager for Corporate Affairs at NSITF.

The IGP also expressed support for NSITF’s enforcement efforts, stating, “With respect to your enforcement drive, you can count on our full support. I have been monitoring the changes you’ve implemented at the NSITF, and I commend you for the positive direction the agency is taking.”

In his response, NSITF Managing Director Faleye highlighted the lack of previous compliance by the police with the ECS but expressed optimism that this new partnership would change that. He praised the police for their dedication to national security and stated that the NSITF is eager to extend the benefits of its social insurance coverage to all ranks of the force.

“We are here to appreciate the leadership of the NPF for their sacrifices in securing the nation. We also want to engage with the police leadership to collaborate on extending our social insurance benefits to the entire police force in line with our mandate,” Faleye said.
