Police Successfully Rescue Four Kidnap Victims, Seize Weapons in Anambra Operation
The Anambra State Police, in collaboration with local vigilante operatives, has successfully rescued four men who fell victim to audacious kidnappers last Friday.
According to a press release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesperson, the dramatic rescue unfolded along Amagu Awgbu Road in Orumba North LGA. Police operatives, engaged in routine patrol and snap checks, intercepted the kidnappers as they attempted to transport their captives through an exit route from the state.
In the face of the patrol team, the daring kidnappers resorted to sporadic gunfire. However, the law enforcement officers, aided by the vigilante group, demonstrated superior firepower, forcing the criminals to surrender. During the encounter, one pump-action gun was seized from the criminals.
The assailants, attempting to escape, utilized three vehicles. Two of these vehicles were successfully disabled by the police-vigilante collaboration, while some of the criminals managed to flee in the third vehicle. Others escaped on foot into the nearby bush, sustaining bullet wounds during the confrontation.
The seized vehicles included a 2017 edition Toyota Highlander with Registration Number Abuja GWA 141 KZ and a Mercedes Benz GLK 350 4Matic with Registration Number Anambra AGU 242 NQ. Notably, the investigation uncovered that the number plates on the Mercedes Benz SUV were falsely linked to a Toyota Sienna Space Wagon vehicle.
The police successfully rescued all four abducted victims, who were found unharmed. Preliminary debriefing is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding their abduction.
Commending the effective collaboration between the police and the vigilante group, Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, expressed satisfaction with the operation’s outcome, emphasizing the importance of such partnerships in combating criminal activities within the state.
