Police Shut Down ‘Yahoo’ Training Centre in Abuja, Arrest Six Suspects

The Nigeria Police Force – National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has exposed and shut down a highly sophisticated cybercrime syndicate that operated a recruitment and mentoring hub in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

As reported by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, a statement released on Wednesday confirmed that this operation led to the apprehension of six suspects involved in various cybercrimes.

This operation was launched in response to a series of intelligence reports, which indicated that the syndicate had deep-rooted involvement in a wide range of cybercrimes, including business email compromise, romance scams, and high-yield investment program fraud within the territory.

Upon receiving this critical intelligence, a team of cybercrime forensic experts and investigators was swiftly deployed to address the issue. This resulted in the arrest of the suspects at their hidden base located in the Dantata Estate area of the capital city.

During the operation, security operatives successfully recovered a trove of digital gadgets and equipment used by the syndicate to perpetrate their criminal activities.

The suspects, identified as Bernard Joseph (27), Emmanuel Joseph (22), Obasi Ikechukwu (19), Anijiofor Tobechuckwu (26), Andrew Moses (19), and Israel Ezekiel (19), admitted their involvement in various cybercrimes, including identity theft, hacking, trading of hacked Facebook accounts, romance scams, and computer-related forgery.

A thorough investigation is currently underway, with efforts to apprehend any fleeing members of this criminal network in progress. Once the investigation is concluded, the arrested suspects will be prosecuted in court.

This successful operation by the Nigeria Police Force demonstrates the commitment to combating cybercrime and safeguarding the digital landscape in the nation’s capital.
