Police Repel Gunmen Attack; Eight Dead, Including Police Officer
A deadly confrontation between security forces and armed bandits in Keta town, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has left eight people dead, including a wanted bandit kingpin, Dan Mudale, a police officer, and six others.
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday in a statement issued in Gusau by its spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar. According to the statement, security operatives successfully repelled an attack by the heavily armed bandits, neutralizing several of them, including Mudale, who had been terrorizing Tsafe and its surroundings.
The attack was first reported at approximately 3:40 p.m. by a resident, prompting a swift response from a joint security team. The team, which included the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, local hunters, and Community Protection Guards, engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle.
Despite the successful operation, the clash claimed the lives of a police officer, four members of the Community Protection Guard, and two hunters. Two other hunters who sustained injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau.
The police reassured residents of their commitment to restoring peace in the state and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to security agencies for immediate action.
