Police Officer Killed as Suspected Bandits Ambush Security Team in Kaduna
A police officer was killed and several others injured on Wednesday when suspected bandits ambushed a joint security team along the Kuzuntu axis of Anchau in Kubau LGA of Kaduna State.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. as personnel from the Nigerian Army, police, Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS) and local vigilantes were returning from a routine assignment at the government grazing reserve in Kuzuntu. The team had escorted staff of an agro-industry and local officials who were in the area to take measurements, a task that was completed without trouble.
According to reports from counter-insurgency outlet Zagazola Makama, the operatives were attacked on their way back by armed men believed to be bandits. Police Constable Sunday Ishaya was shot and later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital. Several soldiers who sustained injuries were also evacuated for treatment and are said to be responding well.
The remains of the slain officer have been deposited at the general hospital in Ikara as security agencies assess the circumstances surrounding the ambush.
