Police Officer, Accomplice Apprehended for Alleged Kidnapping of Minors in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one of its officers and an accomplice over their suspected involvement in the kidnapping of five minors within the state.

According to ASP Ahmad Rufai, the spokesperson for the Command, the arrested officer, identified as ASP Kulu, and her accomplice, Elizabeth, are currently under investigation regarding the alleged abduction.

The incident gained attention after ASP Kulu, accompanied by Elizabeth, was apprehended by the FCT Police Command for reportedly abducting five children, including an infant girl, from Sokoto State.

Reports indicate that among the abducted minors were three toddlers under the age of two and a five-year-old named Asmau Ya’u, who was allegedly taken while en route to an Islamiyya School in Sokoto.

The suspects were intercepted during a journey from Sokoto to Abuja in a commercial 18-seater bus. Alert passengers notified the authorities near Abuja after observing suspicious behavior, notably the suspects’ inability to breastfeed the children during the lengthy journey.

Sirajo Madawaki, an official from the Sokoto State Human Rights Network, disclosed that the case was transferred to their organization from Abuja for further investigation. He assured that the network is committed to ensuring a thorough inquiry and prosecution of the suspects, with the ultimate goal of reuniting the children with their families.

ASP Kulu, serving with the Kubwa Division, had reportedly applied for leave, which was denied prior to her trip to Sokoto, raising questions about the motive behind her journey.
