Police Intercept Armed Group at Anambra–Delta Boundary, Recover Weapons

The Delta State Police Command has intercepted an armed inter-state group travelling from Anambra State into Delta State, recovering firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons.

The operation was carried out by the Command’s Buffalo Patrol Team during a routine stop-and-search at the Head Bridge boundary between Anambra and Delta States on January 22, 2026, at about 4:10 p.m.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the patrol team stopped a green Toyota Sienna entering Delta State from Anambra. The occupants, all dressed in civilian clothing, told officers they were in Delta to welcome a visiting religious leader.

A thorough search of the vehicle, however, revealed concealed weapons, including three pump-action guns, one locally made dane gun, a battle axe, and 26 live cartridges.

Six suspects were arrested during the operation. They are Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic (62), Agbata Mathew (35), Osita Chineye (39), Favour Peterson (23), Prince Tochukwu (32), and Clement Nwakwa (51). The suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations continue.

In a separate operation on January 20, 2026, operatives of the Ugborikoko Division, acting on intelligence and under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Setemi Agbede-Zoukumor, uncovered an organised drug distribution network in the area.

The police said the initial arrest of a suspected drug dealer led to further intelligence, resulting in the arrest of six additional suspects: Daniel Ojukwu, Rose Otofi, Osaro Okosu, Maro Ibecham, Fregene Victory, and Kevwe Irimoni.

Searches conducted at their residences led to the recovery of a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs and related items, including 52 packs of GM Gold Indian hemp, one pack of Canadian loud, 40 packs of Kolorado, 16 sachets of Swinol, 30 tablets of Tramadol, 52 packs of loud, and two crushers believed to be used for processing drugs for resale. Investigations are ongoing.

Commenting on the operations, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, said the Command remains focused on disrupting criminal activities through intelligence-driven policing.

He urged residents to obey the law and continue to provide credible information to security agencies, assuring that all reports would be handled with strict confidentiality.
